New Research Project Focuses on Women, Family and Migration

Congratulations to Dr. Leslie Butt (Department of Pacific and Asian Studies and CAPI) and Dr. Lisa Mitchell (Department of Anthropology, UVic) on being awarded an SSHRC Insight grant for their new project on skilled migrant women in Southeast Asia.

This new grant, which totals $357,000 over five years, will fund important research into the impact of migration on the family and reproductive lives of a new generation of skilled migrant women, particularly from Indonesia and the Philippines, who leave home to work abroad in Canada, Australia and Singapore.

The project is in collaboration with Dr. Linda Bennett (Nossal Institute for Global Health, University of Melbourne, Australia) and Deirdre McKay (Department of Geography, Keele University, UK). For more information, click here.

The Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives is located at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada and is UVic’s window to the Pacific Rim.
