From long-time staff members, to former Directors and Chairs, and committed members of CAPI's Executive Committee, CAPI's alumni often remain engaged with the Centre through our events and projects.
Andrew Harding, Former CAPI Director and Law Program Chair
Andrew Harding received his MA (Oxon) in 1974, his LLM (Singapore) in 1984, and his PhD (Monash) in 1987.
Richard King, Former Director
Richard King joined the Centre in July 2004 as Director and completed his term as Director in June 2009. His principal area of interest is modern Chinese literature and culture.
Heidi Tyedmers, Program Manager
Heidi Tyedmers has an Honours BA from the University of Toronto in Anthropology and Biomedical Ethics, and an MA from the University of Victoria in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Oceania.
Stella Chan, Former Secretary
Stella was the Centre's Secretary from CAPI's inception in 1987 until February 2009. She can now be found in UVic's Department of Psychology where she is working as the Department's Secretary.
Nicole Evans, Work Study Student 2010-11
Nicole is a third year Pacific and Asian Studies and Environmental Studies student. She is interested in connecting science, social science and the humanities and learning about the biophysical environment and its relationships with culture, the economy and society.
Kristy Farkas, Former CAPI Program Assistant
Kristy Farkas has an Honours B.Mus. from Wilfrid Laurier University, in Waterloo, Ontario, and an M.Mus. from UVic, both with a focus on composition. Before joining CAPI in 2009, she spent two and a half years teaching ESL in Japan.
Chris Garrett, Former Executive Committee Member
Chris Garrett's research centers around physical oceanography, with an emphasis on mixing processes which crucially affect ocean circulation and climate.
Ralph Huenemann, Associate and Former Director
Following his retirement from UVic in 2005, Ralph Huenemann joined the Faculty of Peking University in Beijing, where he is now Visiting Professor of Economics and International Business at the Guanghua School of Management.
Go Ito, Japan Program Visitor, Spring 2011
CAPI Visitor Go Ito, is a Professor of International Relations in the Department of Political Science at Meiji University. During his time with CAPI, Professor Ito will convene a workshop on the topic of "Frameworks for Asia-Pacific Regional Cooperation and Japan-China Relations". Professor Ito has a particular interest in Japanese-Chinese-US relations.
Colin Jones, Japan Program Visitor, Fall 2010
Colin P.A. Jones was CAPI's Japan Program Visitor for the Fall of 2010. He is a Professor at Doshisha University Law School in Kyoto, Japan and prior to entering academia, he practiced as a lawyer in New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo with a focus on commerce, finance and telecommunications.
