Kate Vallance

Kate Vallance, a UVic alumni, worked as the Program Officer with the Regional Resource Center for Human Rights in Bangkok, Thailand.  She was a participant of CAPI's 2003-04 Internship Program funded by the Centre.

In describing the value of the placement to her, Kate said:

"This internship has really allowed me to get a sense of what it’s like to work internationally. I’ve been able to become more familiar with the Asia-Pacific network of NGO’s, and gained valuable knowledge about the most important and relevant human rights issues in the region...I’ve learned how to prioritize assignments and figure out how to tackle them with little supervision... Overall it's been a tremendous opportunity for personal and professional growth.

Participating in the CAPI internship program informed my current career path by providing me with the opportunity to work in a community-based organization. This experience inspired me to apply the knowledge I gained during my internship in Thailand to issues within my own community."
