An army coup overthrew the last democratically-elected government of Burma in 1962. The ensuing military regimes have been among the world's most brutal violators of human rights.   Rod Germaine, a dispute resolution practitioner who has been involved with Burma for nearly 20 years, touched on many facets of the situation in Burma today including: the political origins of the current crisis; life in Burma today and internal opposition; refugees and the Burmese diaspora; the "free and democratic Burma movement" alphabet soup; international stalemate - China, India and the UN; the recent US policy shift; and help on the ground - NGOs inside Burma, on the border, and in Canada.
