Funding application guidelines
The Fund's priorities
The Anand-UVic Fund was established in 1996 in honour of H.E. Anand Panyarachun, LL.D. (UVic. 1993), one of Thailand's most respected public figures and UVic's Honorary Patron in Thailand. All donations to the Fund have been made by Thai business leaders and companies in honour of Khun Anand. The purpose of the Fund is to establish Anand Patron Scholarships for deserving Thai students to undertake graduate and professional studies at the University of Victoria.
The Fund's limited resources
This note is addressed to UVic students who are eligible to apply for financial assistance from the Fund. Please read the Guidelines and Other Conditions carefully to determine the requirements for your funding application to receive favourable consideration by the Recommendation Committee. The Fund has limited financial resources. It is anticipated that one Scholarship ($1,650) will be awarded.
Funding guidelines
1. Application statement
The submitted statement must indicate the intended application of the requested grant (see below for first priority of tuition fees in the case of student applications), with appropriate supporting documentation, including a personal resume, details of any matching funding (see below) and reasons why the application should be favourably considered for funding. A supporting note from the applicant's faculty supervisor or Department Chair, as the case may be, must also be included with the application.
2. Prior funding proposals
Applicants must indicate whether the proposal, or substantial part of it, has been the subject of a funding application to any other funding body at the University of Victoria or elsewhere within the past two academic years and, if so, the results of the application.
The UVic Anand Fund Recommendation Committee, composed of the CAPI Director and two other faculty members, will review all applications and make recommendations to the Fund co-directors, H.E. Anand Panyarachun and President Dr. David Turpin, whose decision will be final and conclusive.
3. Applicant eligibility
-
Student Applicant - Registered UVic student in good standing.
- Application submission deadline - October 15th, 2012
Unless otherwise specified, one-half the grant upon the announcement of the award, the remaining half in the following February. In each case, the Scholarship grant will be first applied to any outstanding UVic tuition and other student fees.
5. Other conditions
Single time fund - Successful applicants are not usually eligible for successive grants or awards from the Fund.
Matching funds - Applicants will improve their chances for funding if they can show that they have attracted matching or near-matching funds to support their proposed undertaking.
Financial reports - All awards are expected to be spent for the purposes specified in the application and approved by the Fund. In the case of faculty exchange support grants, the financial report and the closing report should be submitted together within one month of the completion of the exchange program visit. For Anand scholarships, a progress report must be submitted by January 15 of the following year and the closing report by June 1. All reports are to be submitted to the Office of the Director, Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives, Sedgewick Building, Room C128. These reports will be forwarded to the Fund's co-directors, H.E. Anand Panyarachun and President Dr. David Turpin.
