Peter Keller is the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Victoria and his research and teaching are focused in geographic information. He is interested in how geographic information is used and managed by society, how geographic information can be manipulated and analyzed to help solve real world problems, the relationship between technological innovation and geographic information, and the advancement of geographic information theory.
His interests bridge the different cognate areas of Geomatics, most notably cartography, GIS, spatial analysis and management sciences. Application studies are diverse and include the terrestrial and marine environments, planning, communities and empowerment, tourism and education.
Recently completed research projects include the advancement of the design of databases for interactive marine GIS applications, the analytical customization of GIS to solve ill-structured geographic problems, the advancement of surface interpolation techniques, the modeling and visualization of geographic data uncertainty, and the theoretical advancement of GIS towards a tool for exploratory geographical analysis.
